All-black solar modules on a New England roof

Solar PV · NJ

Solar in New Jersey.

New Jersey pays you twice: once by cutting the bill, and again by buying the certificates your roof earns for 15 years.

New Jersey

Built for how this market actually runs.

Typical homes here see about $0.20 / kWh and 1,290 kWh per kW per year. We size the system to your bill — then confirm it on the roof.

Every 1,000 units of electricity your panels make earns a certificate the state purchases from you under the Successor Solar Incentive program. That payment is fixed on the day your system is registered and runs for 15 years, so it is income you can actually plan around rather than a market you have to watch.

On top of that, all four utilities — PSE&G, JCP&L, Atlantic City Electric and Rockland — credit exported power at the full retail rate. Equipment is exempt from sales tax, and adding panels does not raise your property assessment.

One honest caveat on ownership. If you lease the system or sign a power purchase agreement, the certificate income and the net-metering credits go to whoever owns the equipment, not to you. That can still be the right choice, but you should know what you are trading away before you sign.

    Per 1,000 kWh, 15 years

Your system earns one certificate for every 1,000 units of electricity it produces, and the state buys them from you for 15 years at a rate locked on your registration date. VERIFY BEFORE PUBLISHING: the NJ BPU cut the residential rate during 2026 and public sources disagree on the current block and effective date. Confirm against the NJCEP ADI incentive table.

  • Full retail net metering

    1:1 credit

All four New Jersey utilities credit exported power at the full retail rate. What your roof sends out is worth what you would have paid to buy it.

  • Sales tax exemption

    100% exempt

Solar equipment is fully exempt from New Jersey sales tax. You need a completed ST-4 form, which we file.

  • Property tax exemption

    100% exempt

Adding solar does not raise your assessment. The exemption requires a certificate from your municipal assessor.
